JOY

Picture

Light

Today we light the pink candle, the candle of joy. Joy is a feeling of big happiness!
Read Psalm 33:21, "Our heart rejoices in God because we trust God's holy name."
As we light the candle of joy, may we experience joy because we know that God is always with us!
Light or color the candle, usually, the third candle of Advent is pink or a rose color, but you can use whatever color candle you have (light however many you need for this week)
Question - Share a time when you were very joyful?

Learn

Watch the video of the children's book, Woodpecker Girl: A True Story by Chingyen Liu.
Then, talk about these questions together:
  • Do you have to be good at something in order to bring joy
  • How does Jesus bring joy into this world?
  • How does this story relate to the Bible verse? (Psalm 33:21)

Do

  • Write JOY in large bubble letters. Pull out some pencils and crayons. Together with your loved ones, color and/or write things that bring joy in this world inside the bubble letters.
  • Sing or listen to the song, Joy to the World. This is a nice version that emphasizes JOY! Have a dance party!

Give

  • Spread JOY in your neighborhood this week. Bake cookies for a neighbor, shovel a snowy sidewalk, make a card, or do something to spread JOY!
